Deploying Windows 8 on Intel Architecture-based Tablets: Intel’s Approach
IT Best Practices: Intel IT believes that the combination of powerful Intel architecture-based tablets and Microsoft Windows 8 provides significant productivity benefits to employees, as well as improved manageability and information security capabilities. This paper describes our process and best practices for preparing for and deploying Windows 8 on Intel architecture-based tablets.
The use of Intel architecture-based tablets, compared to other tablets, enables Intel employees to move beyond mere content consumption and use their tablets for content creation and collaboration. Running Windows 8 on Intel architecture-based tablets is the first time employees can have a tablet form factor with the exact same software and network access as with a laptop, as well as the productivity benefits associated with touch interaction, system responsiveness, and improved battery life. IT benefits include improved manageability and information security, compared to other OSs and tablets. These Intel architecture-based tablets are also compatible with our PC support model, because the build and software components are the same as what we use on PCs.
To prepare for deploying Windows 8 on Intel architecture-based tablets, we addressed the following areas:
• Services and delivery options
• Security, network, and user experience requirements
• Cloud storage and synchronization recommendations
• Privacy, legal, financial, and software licensing concerns
• Employee communications and training
