Intel Chip Chat – Network Insights audio podcast with Allyson Klein: Year-over-year growth in demands on network capacity continue to outpace the operating expense and capital expense capacities of communication service providers. While virtualization of the network addresses this growing business problem, the associated disaggregated model brings with it a new set of technical and operational challenges. The Intel Select Solutions for NFVI Forwarding Platform are verified systems of compute, network, storage, and middleware elements that can significantly accelerate the introduction of next-generation virtualized solutions into the network, reducing both time to production and total cost of ownership.

Hanen Garcia, Telco Solutions Manager and Reza Mokhtari, Global Telco Alliance Executive for Red Hat join Intel Chip Chat Network Insights in this archive of a livecast interview from the Intel Network Builders Summit in conjunction with SDN & NFV World Congress in The Hague, Netherlands. Hanen traces the origins of the virtual central office and the contributions from the OPNFV community which drove use cases to proof of concept, and now to market delivery. Reza explains Red Hat’s journey with Intel Select Solutions and the alignment of importance of the third generation of Intel Select Solutions providing the separation of user plane and control plane, a significant factor in building the networks of the future.

Hanen highlights the collaboration from Intel Network Builders partners, World Wide Technology (WWT), Altiostar, HPE, F5, Cumulus Networks, and Affirmed Networks to deliver this end-to-end integrated solution – the Red Hat Virtual Central Office (VCO). He shares how this solution provides a blueprint for modernizing service provider operations at the network edge via an open, software-defined infrastructure platform.
