Google.org, the philanthropic arm of Google, Inc., announced a major initiative to spur the adoption of Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicles and Vehicle-to-Grid technology, called RechargeIT.org. More than just a Website, the effort brings together the innovators and industry leaders from PG&E, Hymotion and A123Systems, to harness their collective knowledge and bring about change in the energy and automotive landscape. Dan Reicher, Google.org’s director of Climate and Energy Initiatives, and former Assistant Energy Secretary under President Clinton, joins me for a discussion about the announcement. Interestingly, Dan and I had a connection when speaking — we both lived in Vermont and Dan was well-informed on Burlington Electric’s McNeil Generating Plant, the first wood-fired power plant to enter the electric grid, of which my father was project manager, and he also knows John Todd of JohnTodd Ecological, a water and natural resources planning firm, where my twin brother is operations manager. Neat!
