In this episode of Intel on AI guest Rana el Kaliouby, Ph.D., cofounder and CEO of Affectiva, and author of Girl Decoded: A Scientist’s Quest to Reclaim Our Humanity by Bringing Emotional Intelligence to Technology, talks with host Abigail Hing Wen, Intel AI Tech Evangelist and New York Times best-selling author, about emotional intelligence (EQ)—a person’s ability to sense emotional and cognitive states and behaviors, and be able to adapt in real-time based on that information.

The two talk about Rana’s journey to founding Affectiva with MIT professor Rosalind Picard, Sc.D, the future implementations of EQ in technology, such as customer service and autonomous driving, and why such systems need to have clearly defined data policies.
