Rob says in the interview that it would be cool if they released a version of these hard drives with a transparent cover, I agree – so why don’t they??
Sure may be there are technical reasons that would make it difficult and may be the product range featured in this podcast isn’t best suited for that, but I would certainly buy one of their external USB hard drives if it came in a transparent casing.
These days Seagate seem to be getting a lot cooler and altering their image/brand, moving away from being a behind the scenes company.
OK so a funky looking USB hard drive might seem insignificant but a lot of people these days buy products because of the “cool factor or they look slick (thats one of the reason s I use a Mac).
I work in enterprise data storage so have a lot of respect for Seagate and personally associate their brand with “quality” and I like to buy quality products. As I say though, I also like my “cool” products. If Seagate did a transparent USB hard drive Id buy it – form and functionality in the same package!
