I never thought a plant tour of an auto assembly line would be that interesting, but when I toured GM’s new Lansing Delta Township plant, where they are building the new Buick Enclave, GMC Acadia and Saturn Outlook, I was fascinated — so much so, that I came back the next day with a video camera to take the tour again and do a story. My host was Jerry Metts, UAW Quality Network Representative, who holds a wealth of knowledge about the facility. The LDT plant has a gold LEED certification and is the only automotive manufacturing plant in the world — as well as the largest facility and the most complex manufacturing site — ever to receive any level of LEED certification, (the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) program.)
