El Dorado Ventures General Partner Charles Beeler continues his man-on-the-street interviews at DEMO 07. Paul Holland was impressed with a few of the companies he saw at the conference, as well as with the spinach salad at a VC dinner. It wasn’t just the spinach, actually. It was the whole salad.

This is Charles Beeler for the PodTech Network, I am here with Paul Holland from Foundation Capital at DEMO 2007 Conference. Paul; thanks for sitting and talking to us for a few minutes in the middle of your dinner here at Sullivan’s. What have you seen so far at the show that you are impressed with?

Paul Holland – Foundation Capital

I am incredibly impressed with spinach salad, the salad dressing, the tomatoes, the bacon, just spectacular, really good.

And the people you are surrounded by the networking I assume as well?

Paul Holland – Foundation Capital

Couldn’t be better, couldn’t be better right.

Any companies at the show that you enjoyed listen today and you thought might stand up from the crowd?

Paul Holland – Foundation Capital

I like Zink and I think Me.dium is pretty interesting — so yeah.

And do you guys have any companies who representing here at DEMO and launching?

Paul Holland – Foundation Capital

We do not, no.

Charles Beeler – PodTech

And tell us a bit about what you focus on?

Paul Holland – Foundation Capital

What I focus on, so my last three investments were, I have wedding photography company, I have a job work company and I have a cement company.

Charles Beeler – PodTech

A cement company, you are not going to see a lot of those at DEMO, although sure a profitable market area.

Paul Holland – Foundation Capital

Yeah. Well that is $500 billion a year in cement so that is what we have.

Charles Beeler – PodTech

And maybe the less known fact about you, but you are easily one of the most skilled poker players in the entire venture community and beyond. You have been doing much more play, play much poker lately or is work keeping you away from one of your top hobbies and one of your key skills?

Paul Holland – Foundation Capital

We have a new poker out in Portola Valley, a lot of venture guys that are in it and it turned out to be a lot of fun, but the key thing is February 8th, Palo Alto Poker Championships benefitting being school, got to come out.
