I Got A Zune For Christmas
Microsoft’s Zune came out of the Christmas season with less than 3 percent of the MP3 player market share. Its overall sales rank on Amazon – a recent check showed the various 30 GB Zune models fluctuating between #77 and #512 in Electronics – has put it comfortably behind several MP3 player competitors, including Apple’s iPod, which recently ranked #1 on Amazon, overall. It also ranks behind several models from Creative Zen and SanDisk, in addition to Apple. And, adding insult to injury, there was this image, of iPods piled on a Zune display at Costco.
It was in this climate of serious competition for Microsoft’s MP3 player that Inside Digital Media’s Phil Leigh located “Trent,” seen here, who received a Zune for Christmas. Trent likes his Zune, but imagine how much more he would appreciate it if he could find someone else on his campus of 50,000 undergraduates with whom he could use Zune’s unique capability to share music.
