Alcohol use is harmful to health in many ways, including some that go unrecognized. One third of U.S. adults experience alcohol use disorder in their lifetime, according to today’s Business Group on Health Podcast guest, Dr. John Kelly. But there is good news. “If you have an alcohol problem, an alcohol use disorder, if you suffer from alcohol addiction, the most likely outcome is recovery,” says Dr. Kelly and there are multiple paths to get there. During this episode, we discuss these pathways, the reasons people start and stop using alcohol, if there is any safe level of alcohol use, and ways employers can help facilitate recovery.

Guest: John Kelly, PhD, Professor of Psychiatry in Addiction Medicine at Harvard Medical School and Founder and Director of the Recovery Research Institute at the Massachusetts General Hospital
