Las Vegas, NV, April 6, 2006 (PodTech News) – PayPal says it figures to be the leader in cell phone services when it comes to retail financial transactions. The phone as a point of sale purchasing device is becoming reality in Japan led in part by NTT DoCoMo and wireless industry visionaries estimate pay-by-phone systems will be standard in a few years. But PayPal has been dominant on the web. “While PayPal was growing its business online, the adoption of mobile devices was also growing,” said PayPal president Jeff Jordan, who delivered a keynote on the second day of the CTIA Wireless 2006 trade show in Las Vegas.

Former Los Angeles Lakers basketball star Magic Johnson joined Jordan on stage to emphasize the importance of commerce over cell phones. Johnson is a major investor and developer of businesses in African-American communities in cities around the U.S. “When you think about the year 2015, half of the United States will be minority,” Johnson stated. “You have to look at that customer base if you want to grow your business.”
