There was a shift in the audience at the M&A Outlook 2008 when David Rubenstein — co-founder and managing director of the Carlyle Group — was sighted in the room. The crowd got quiet. The same happened when Wilbur Ross, chairman and CEO of WL Ross and Co. took the stage.
